Volunteering Matters Pembrokeshire

What is the essence of life? To serve others and do good.

Aristotle

We believe everyone in the UK should have the opportunity to thrive, therefore we bring people together to overcome some of society’s most complex issues through the power of volunteering.

We partner with communities to overcome adversity, tackling social isolation and loneliness, improving health, developing skills and opportunity, and making sure young people can lead change.

And we turn local knowledge and energy into action and progress, building stronger communities and a better future for all.

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

Mahatma Ghandi

Why do we do it?

Because stronger communities mean that everyone has an opportunity to thrive, and because by reducing isolation and loneliness, improving mental and physical health, building an individual’s skill set, raising confidence and increasing opportunities we are ensuring that people can themselves lead change.

Based in the PAVS office in Haverfordwest and working in partnership with Pembrokeshire Community Hub, the main focus for Volunteering Matters Pembrokeshire is the recruiting and retention of volunteers to assist with the variety of requests that come through the Hub.

Our vision is of a society where everyone can participate in their local community through volunteering and social action.

Our mission is to invest in people through volunteering to reduce inequalities and isolation, improve health and wellbeing and so build a stronger, more inclusive society.

Our values being that we are ambitious, honest, transparent, collaborative, innovative and inclusive; these are not just a group of words, they are qualities that underpin everything we do, both as staff and volunteers.

Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'

Martin Luther King Junior

Why do members of the community step forward to volunteer with Volunteering Matters?

The reasons are as varied as the roles on offer. Wanting to give back to the community as a thank you for support that they have been afforded, something productive to do with their spare time, to make new friends, support others who may require extra emotional or physical help, to feel valued and to feel part of a caring team of like- minded individuals.

So if you want to make a difference, give something back, make someone’s day or just try something a little bit different please get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
